Instead I have chosen to celebrate the mystery of life, its beauty which comes to us in so many forms. Someone sent me an email today with photographs of a giraffe – not just any giraffe, but a Rothchild giraffe born at the Chester Zoo in England. Margaret is her name, and as baby giraffes go, she’s pint-sized, having come into the world at just 75 pounds and just shy of five feet in height. I’ve learned that the Rothchild giraffe is native to Kenya and Uganda and is among the most endangered of the giraffe subspecies. And it is beautiful. See if you don’t think so too.
Death – and beyond – certainly is a mystery to me. But so too is life: a precious, awesome, and rich mystery which blesses us when we are open to the miracle of attentiveness. Thank you Gerry for sharing Margaret!
