Christmas: It's not your birthday.
Don't you like that? Don't you think we really do need to be reminded? The suggestion that came with this is that whatever we spend on Christmas gifts, we match with donations to charitable organizations that help those who need basics - like clean water, medical care, shelter, food. So I offer this up for consideration. Maybe we cannot match dollar for dollar, but whatever matching we might do, will make the world of difference for someone. Someone perhaps being born in lowly circumstances, or to a family whose only hope and prayer is that their new child will live through the night, or on to adulthood, free from war in a world that no longer knows hate.
And if it really were your birthday, isn't this the gift you'd want?
