And then I noticed – I was in a construction zone. A robin had begun building a nest in the “rafters” (my kitchen is up on stilts so there is under girding below). We’d had a nest and babies there some years ago, and now it appeared it was going to happen again. I moved the bucket to the far end of the dog pen so as not to bother the birds. But I must confess, I wonder how the birds managed to dislodge the bucket in the first place. It must have been perseverance! I wasn’t sure if the beginning construction was a sign of a clear decision to build, but this morning, more work had been done – the family is moving in. I took these two pictures this morning. By the end of the day the outer portion of the nest was mud-caked – don’t you wonder how they do that?
So I am delighted to have new neighbors. Nelly and I will move quietly and infrequently in that area, but you know I’ll be snapping pictures! I’ll share as life unfolds.
